The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, beat the Portland Pirates 1-0 in an overtime shootout on Saturday at the Hartford Civic Center. The game featured 65 minutes of shutout hockey at both ends of the ice until the game was finally decided when Brad Isbister picked up the decisive goal in the shootout's fifth round. Ryan Callahan, the first Pack player in the shootout, also scored, but he was matched by Colby Genoway in Round 3, sending the shootout into extra rounds before Isbister, the game's No. 3 star, won it for Hartford. Stephen Valiquette was outstanding in net for the Pack, making 34 saves to earn the shutout and No. 1 star honors. Dov Grumet-Morris made 29 saves in defeat for Portland. Hartford is now 12-12-2 on the season, reaching the .500 mark for the first time. They are also now within eight points of the first-place Pirates in the AHL's Atlantic Division. The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, downed the Augusta Lynx 5-3 on Saturday night in Augusta, Ga. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt was the difference in goal, making 35 saves. Fellow Rangers prospect Zdenek Bahensky tallied his third goal of the season for the Checkers to close out the scoring at 18:15 of the third period. Bruce Graham did not score, but finished the game with a plus-1 rating coming off his first hat trick of the season on Friday night. The Checkers are now 15-9-1 and in fourth place in the American Conference's South Division, just five points behind division-leading Texas. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.

Despite the Czechs' second straight loss in the tournament, it was a big game for Rangers prospect Marek, an eighth-round draft pick in 2003, who tallied two goals in defeat. Marek scored the Czechs' first goal at 16:00 of the first period, cutting Sweden's lead to 3-1. He picked up his second goal on a power-play at 17:39 of the middle period, cutting the lead at the time to 5-4. He also took one minor penalty in the third period. The Czechs will play Russia for the tournament's bronze medal on Sunday.

Russell's 13th goal of the season at 9:17 of the second period gave the Ice a 2-0 lead and stood up as the game-winner. He finished the night with a plus-2 rating and was named the game's No. 1 star.
