Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Dec. 1, 2006

The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 4-2 at home Friday night. Rangers prospect Lee Falardeau, recently reassigned from Hartford of the AHL, scored the Checkers' second goal of the game with only 2:13 left in the third period, pulling Charlotte into a late 2-2 tie. Pensacola, however, came back to score the winner just over one minute later and put the game away with an empty net goal with only 14 seconds remaining. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt made 20 saves for Charlotte. The Checkers are now 10-7-0 and in fifth place in the American Conference's South Division. Staal played a big role in the Wolves' comeback from a 3-0 deficit in the first period, contributing two assists. He picked up the primary assist on Sudbury's first goal, scored by Akim Aliu on a power play at 7:47 of the second period. He followed that up with another primary assist on Devin DiDiomete's goal at 4:53 of the third, which cut the Sting's lead to 3-2.

ZeliskaLukas Zeliska

Zeliska's Scoring to Date: 26 games, 3 goals, 15 assists, 41 PIM
Dec. 1: Prince Albert 5, Regina 4 (SO) (at Regina)

Zeliska, the game's No. 3 star, had the primary assist on Ryan DePape's power-play goal with 4:55 remaining in the third period, which forced overtime. He then clinched the shootout by scoring Prince Albert's second goal in three shots, making it impossible for Regina to force another round. Zeliska was also called for a minor penalty in the opening period.

Russell scored his first goal since returning to the Ice from a hand injury. He tallied at 14:04 of the second period to stretch Kootenay's lead to 6-1.

The night after starring for the WHL All-Stars in a win over Team Russia, Dupont picked up an assist in the Hitmen's loss to earn No. 3 star honors. He had the second assist on Alex Plante's power-play goal at 7:02 of the third period, cutting Medicine Hat's lead at the time to 3-2.

Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 28 games, 6 goals, 14 assists, 8 PIM

Zaborsky scored his sixth goal of the season at 18:55 of the first period, pulling the Spirit into a 2-2 tie with the Whalers. Plymouth went on to score single goals in both the second and third periods for the win. Zaborsky finished the game with a plus-1 rating.
