The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, won Game 1 of their American Conference South Division quarterfinal playoff series on Monday, beating the Augusta Lynx 2-1 in overtime at home. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt was outstanding in net for the Checkers, stopping 40 of 41 shots to earn No. 2 star honors. The Lynx outshot the Checkers 41-28, and Holt made seven of his saves in the overtime before Charlotte's Daymen Rycroft notched the game-winner on a power play at 11:01 of the extra period. Two other Rangers prospects, forwards Zdenek Bahensky and Bruce Graham, also played for the Checkers on Monday. Charlotte now has a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series, which continues with Game 2 on Tuesday night in Augusta, Ga. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.

April 9: Medicine Hat 7, Regina 2 (at Medicine Hat) (Med. Hat leads series 2-0)

It was a two-point night for Sauer, the game's No. 3 star, as Medicine Hat took a commanding 2-0 series lead. He had the second assist on Daine Todd's power-play goal at 16:38 of the first period, which stretched the Tigers' lead to 4-0. He later had the primary assist on Kris Russell's goal at 3:53 of the third, making it a 6-2 game. Sauer finished the game with a plus-3 rating.

Staal, the Wolves' captain, continued to play a major role in his team's run to a 3-0 series lead – with all of Sudbury's victories coming in overtime. He had the primary assist on Gerome Giudice's goal at 15:42 of the second period, giving Sudbury a 2-1 lead. Staal also took two minor penalties in the game and finished the night with a plus-1 rating.

Furrer did not score any points or take any penalties as Bern fell to Davos 1-0 in Game 7 of the Swiss championship series.
