The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Providence Bruins 5-2 in a first-round Calder Cup playoff game on Saturday night at the Hartford Civic Center, as the Bruins tied the Atlantic Division semifinal series at 3-3. The decisive Game 7 will be played on Sunday night in Hartford, as the second-seeded Pack look to advance to the division finals by putting away third-seeded Providence at home. Providence took a 2-0 lead in the opening period on Saturday before Corey Potter got Hartford's first goal off an assist from Brandon Dubinsky at 6:25 of the second period. Providence stretched the lead back tot 3-1 with the eventual game-winner on a power play at 8:12 of the second, and Hartford's Hannu Pikkarainen cut the lead down to 3-2 off assists from Alex Bourret and Jarkko Immonen at the 11:06 mark. That would be the last Hartford goal, however, as the Bruins went on to score two more in the third. Providence outshot the Pack 29-20, as Hartford goalie Al Montoya finished the night with 13 saves before yielding to Chris Holt at 13:30 of the second period, following Providence' fourth goal.
