Rangers Daily Prospect Update: April 27, 2007

Three Rangers prospects competed in postseason games in the OHL and WHL on Friday. Here is a summary of their performances:


StaalMarc Staal

April 27: Sudbury 4, Belleville 3 (3OT) (at Sudbury) (Sudbury wins series 4-2)

Staal, the Sudbury captain, helped lead the Wolves into the OHL Finals with a dramatic triple-overtime victory over favored Belleville. The Wolves came back from a 2-0 first-period deficit, and Staal played a big role in the comeback. He picked up the primary assist on Kevin Baker's power-play goal at 18:48 of the first, cutting Belleville's lead to 2-1. He later had the second assist on Matt Dias' series-winning goal on a power play at 3:23 of the third overtime. Sudbury will play for the J. Ross Robertson Cup against the Plymouth Whalers. Staal will try to help his team make history as the Wolves go after Sudbury's first OHL championship and the first since the franchise relocated from Niagara Falls in 1972.

April 27: Medicine Hat 4, Calgary 3 (OT) (at Medicine Hat) (Medicine Hat wins series 4-1)

Dupont had the primary assist on Dylan Yeo's power-play goal at 12:23 of the third period, which pulled the Hitmen into a 3-2 lead they could not maintain. Medicine Hat would tie the game 23 seconds later en route to ending Calgary's season in overtime.

Sauer's Regular-Season Scoring: 65 games, 5 goals, 18 assists, 75 PIM
Sauer's Playoff Scoring to Date: 16 games, 0 goals, 4 assists, 23 PIM
April 27: Medicine Hat 4, Calgary 3 (OT) (at Medicine Hat) (Medicine Hat wins series 4-1)

Sauer did not score any points and took one minor penalty in the second period as the Tigers advanced to the WHL Finals. He finished the game with a plus-1 rating.
