Rangers Daily Prospect Update: April 11, 2007

Four Rangers prospects competed in postseason games in the QMJHL, OHL and WHL on Wednesday. Here is a summary of their performances:


Hillier Ryan Hillier
Position/Team: Left Wing/Halifax Mooseheads
League: QMJHL -- Playoffs
Hillier's Regular-Season Scoring: 70 games, 32 goals, 27 assists, 79 PIM
Hillier's Playoff Scoring to Date: 11 games, 3 goals, 6 assists, 16 PIM
April 11: Halifax 3, Lewiston 2 (OT) (at Halifax) (Lewiston leads series 3-1)

Hillier, the game's No. 2 star, saved the Mooseheads' season with a pair of points, including the game-winning goal at 3:15 of overtime. Earlier, he had the primary assist on Peter-James Corsi's game-tying goal on a power play with 4:33 remaining in regulation. Hillier also led Halifax with nine shots on goal in the game. With the victory, Halifax avoided a series sweep and forced a Game 5, which will the Mooseheads will also play at home.

DupontBrodie Dupont
Position/Team: Center/Calgary Hitmen
League: WHL -- Playoffs

April 11: Calgary 5, Brandon 1 (at Calgary) (Series tied 2-2)

It was another huge evening for Dupont, the game's No. 1 star, who scored two goals to help Calgary even its series with Brandon. He opened the scoring on a power play at 7:36 of the first period, and later scored a shorthanded goal with 32 seconds left in the middle period to give the Hitmen a 3-1 lead. Dupont finished the game with a plus-1 rating.

Position/Team: Defense/Sudbury Wolves
League: OHL -- Playoffs

April 11: Sudbury 4, Barrie 2 (at Sudbury) (Sudbury wins series 4-0)

Staal, the Wolves' captain, led his team to a stunning sweep of the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed. He had one point in the game -- a second assist on Justin Donati's power-play goal at 15:36 of the first period, which gave Sudbury a 1-0 lead. Staal finished the game with a plus-1 rating.

SauerMichael Sauer
Position/Team: Defense/Medicine Hat Tigers
League: WHL -- Playoffs
Sauer's Regular-Season Scoring: 65 games, 5 goals, 18 assists, 75 PIM
Sauer's Playoff Scoring to Date: 10 games, 0 goals, 3 assists, 15 PIM
April 11: Medicine Hat 2, Regina 1 (OT) (at Regina) (Medicine Hat leads series 3-0)

Sauer did not score any points or take any penalty minutes as his Tigers team edged the Pats in overtime and moved to within one win of a trip to the next round.

HunterEric Hunter

April 11: Prince George 4, Everett 3 (OT) (at Prince George) (Series tied 2-2)

Hunter, the Prince George captain, was not in the lineup after breaking his ankle early in Game 2 of the series. He will miss the remainder of the playoffs.
