BACKGROUND:
Erixon was selected by the Rangers in the second round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, 30th overall ... Prior to joining the NHL, played four seasons with Skelleftea of the Swedish Ice Hockey League First Division ... Was selected for the Swedish Junior National Team that took the 1981 IIHF World Championship ... Appeared in his first Rangers/NHL game on October 5, 1983 vs. New Jersey ... Tallied his first Rangers/NHL goal on October 8, 1983 vs. Pittsburgh ... Tied for fifth among NHL rookies in 1983-94 with a +14 rating ... Was well known and respected around the NHL as a hard worker and a player who was strong in the corners ... Is widely considered one of the top defensive players in Rangers history ... Appeared in 556 career regular season games with the Rangers from 1983-84 to 1992-93, collecting 57 goals and 159 for 216 points, along with 167 penalty minutes ... Registered 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) and 16 penalty minutes in 58 career playoff games with the Blueshirts.

1985-86 NOTES:
Erixon's playing time was severely limited by left leg injuries, first suffering a cut on his left shin on Dec. 8 missing the next dozen outings before returning on Jan. 10 only to suffer a fractured left tibia on Jan. 12 ... His next appearance was on the final night of the regular season after missing 37 consecutive matches ... His two goals were tallied on the road - Nov. 8 vs. the Winnipeg Jets and Nov. 23 against the New York Islanders ... Finished the season with a +12 rating, fourth best on the team and second among Blueshirt forwards ... Dressed in 12 of New York's 16 playoff games.
