The New York Rangers announced their 2016-17 regular season schedule today. The Blueshirts will begin their 90th NHL season with a Metropolitan Division matchup against the New York Islanders on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers will open their regular season schedule at home for the first time since the 2007-08 season and for the 25th time in franchise history. In addition, the Blueshirts are playing their season opener against the Islanders for only the second time in franchise history (the first time was in 1997-98; 2-2 tie on Oct. 3, 1997 at MSG).
The Rangers will play a total of 30 games against Metropolitan Division opponents this season. The Blueshirts will face Columbus and Pittsburgh five times each and will play four games apiece against Carolina, New Jersey, the NY Islanders, Philadelphia, and Washington. New York will play three games against each of its eight Atlantic Division opponents and will also face off against each Western Conference team twice in 2016-17.
