The New York Rangers will open the 2006-07 season on Thursday, Oct. 5, taking on the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden. This marks the first time since the 1998-99 campaign that the Rangers have kicked off their season on home ice.
With a continued emphasis on division rivalries, the Rangers will face Atlantic Division foes New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and the Islanders eight times each over the course of the season.
New York will face the other Eastern Conference opponents a total of four times apiece. Also, the Rangers will host the Central Division -- Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis --and will travel to meet the Pacific Division opponents -- Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Jose.
The schedule features seven Saturday contests at MSG, including four matinees, three beginning at 1 p.m. and one starting at 2 p.m.. The Blueshirts will play nine Sunday games in New York, including one at 12:30 p.m., one at 3:30 p.m. and two at 5 p.m.
The Rangers will play a back-to-back home series on Saturday, February 17 vs. Philadelphia and Sunday, February 18 vs. Chicago, while a six-game homestand from February 22-March 5 will be the longest home stretch of the season.
The team's busiest night on the home schedule is Sunday, with nine dates. In addition, the Rangers will also play four Monday and Wednesday games, along with eight Tuesday and Thursday tilts at The Garden. The lone Friday evening contest at home is vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 9.
Starting times for all home games will be 7 p.m., except for the following eight dates: Sun., Nov. 5 vs. Buffalo (5 p.m.); Sun., Dec. 3 vs. NY Islanders (5 p.m.); Sat., Jan. 13 vs. Boston (2 p.m.); Sat., Jan. 20 vs. Atlanta (1 p.m.); Sat., Feb. 17 vs. Philadelphia (1 p.m.); Sun., Feb. 18 vs. Chicago (3:30 p.m.); Sat., Mar. 3 vs. St. Louis (1 p.m.) and Sun., Mar. 11 vs. Carolina (12:30 p.m.).PURCHASING INFORMATION:
