On Wednesday, October 13, New York Rangers Derek Boogaard and Alex Frolov hosted a special “Show Kids New York” event alongside 20 children from the Garden of Dreams Foundation’s partner organization, Loisaida.
The event kicked off at Loisaida Community Center on the Lower East Side where children boarded a double-decker sight-seeing bus before heading to Madison Square Garden to pick up the Rangers forwards for a tour of midtown Manhattan.
Children enjoyed taking in the sights of the city with their Rangers friends, who are both new to Manhattan. The bus headed past the Empire State Building, Bryant Park, Radio City Music Hall, and Rockefeller Center before arriving at Build-A-Bear Workshop®, where they created their own customized stuffed-animals and were treated to a private pizza party.
“This was a lot of fun”, Frolov said. “I’ve never done this before. I made a Flamingo bear all by myself. I stuffed it and everything. It was great!”
After choosing, stuffing and fully accessorizing their bears, many of which were decked out in Rangers gear, the kids received autographs and gift bags from the Rangers players.
“This was fantastic. The kids enjoyed themselves, said Michael Caraballo, Project Coordinator of Loisaida. “They fell in love with the bears and they fell in love with the players being there supporting them. It was just a great event.” Special thanks to Gray Line New York for your tremendous support.
