New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has re-signed restricted free agent center Roman Lyashenko
. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Lyashenko, 23, who was acquired from the Dallas Stars, along with Martin Rucinsky, on March 12 in exchange for Manny Malhotra and Barrett Heisten, skated in 19 matches with Dallas and the Rangers last season, registering two goals. He netted both goals following the trade. Lyashenko also spent parts of last season with the Utah Grizzlies and Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), skating in 58 regular season matches with Utah, tallying 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points, along with 37 penalty minutes. He also skated in four post-season matches with Hartford, registering one goal and one assist for two points, along with two penalty minutes.
The 6-0, 189-pounder has skated in 137 NHL career matches with Dallas and New York, registering 14 goals and nine assists for 23 points, along with 55 penalty minutes.
The Murmansk, Russia native was originally selected by Dallas as its second choice, 52nd overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
