Rangers Agree to Terms with Nick Bonino

New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Nick Bonino on a one-year contract.

Bonino, 35, skated in 62 games in 2022-23, split between the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins, registering 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points. It marked the seventh straight season in which he recorded 10 or more goals. At the time of being dealt by San Jose on March 3, Bonino led all Sharks with 2:14 minutes of shorthanded time on ice per game, as well as 74 blocked shots.

The Hartford, Connecticut native has amassed 158 goals and 195 assists for 353 points in 823 games with the Penguins, Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks. Bonino set career-highs in goals (22), assists (27) and points (49) in 2013-14 with the Ducks while registering seven power play goals.

The 6-1, 195 pound forward is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, winning in consecutive years with Pittsburgh (2016, 2017). In 105 playoff games, he has tallied 19 goals and 29 assists for 48 points. During the Penguins' 2016 run to the Stanley Cup, he tallied 18 points (4G-14A) in 24 games, leading the team in assists.

Prior to going pro, Bonino played three seasons at Boston University, where he recorded 117 points (45G-72A) in 116 career games and won the National Championship with the Terriers in 2009.

Bonino was originally drafted by the Sharks in the sixth round, 173rd overall, of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
