New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Garth Murray. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Murray, 20, appeared in one pre-season match with New York, registering two penalty minutes. Last season, he skated in 62 contests with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL), tallying 33 goals and 30 assists for 63 points, along with 154 penalty minutes. While serving as team captain for the Pats, Murray's 33 goals ranked second on the team and his 63 points ranked third. At the conclusion of his season with Regina, Murray joined the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), skating in four regular season matches and nine post-season games. He registered one goal and three assists for four points in the AHL playoffs, along with six penalty minutes.
The Regina, Saskatchewan native was originally selected by the Rangers in the third round, 79th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
