New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Petr Zamorsky.
Zamorsky, 21, registered seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points, along with 80 penalty minutes, in 44 games this past season with HC Zlin in the Czech Extraliga. The 6-0, 190-pounder was named as the best defenseman in the league during the regular season. Zamorsky established career-highs in assists and points during the season. He was tied for first among defensemen on the club in goals, and ranked second among defensemen on the club in assists and points.
In 14 playoff games this past season, Zamorsky recorded four goals and five assists for nine points, along with a plus-eight rating while helping HC Zlin win the Czech Extraliga Championship. He established playoff career-highs in goals, assists, and points during the playoffs. Zamorsky led all defensemen in the league in points and tied for first among all skaters in the league in plus/minus rating in the playoffs.
Internationally, Zamorsky has represented the Czech Republic in numerous tournaments, including most recently at the 2014 World Championship in Minsk, Belarus, where he recorded three assists in 10 games. The Zlin, Czech Republic native ranked second among defensemen on the team in assists and tied for second among defensemen on the team in points in the tournament.
