New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Dale Purinton
. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Purinton, 25, appeared in 40 matches last season, collecting a career-high four assists along with 113 penalty minutes. He also matched a personal-high for penalty minutes in a single contest on two occasions, registering 17 minutes on October 10 vs. Washington and on January 30 vs. Long Island.
The 6-3, 225-pounder has skated in 83 career NHL matches with the Rangers, registering six assists and 300 penalty minutes. Purinton has also played in 135 games with the Rangers’ top American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, collecting five goals and eight assists for 13 points, along with 891 penalty minutes. He is the franchise’s single season penalty minutes leader, recording 415 minutes during 1999-2000. Purinton was also a key member of the Wolf Pack’s Calder Cup championship team in 2000, appearing in all 23 post-season contests, registering three assists and 87 penalty minutes.
The native of Fort Wayne, Indiana was the Rangers’ fifth choice, 117th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
