New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Alex Belzile on a two-year contract.

Belzile, 31, split the 2022-23 season between the Montreal Canadiens and Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League (AHL). He skated in 31 games for the Canadiens this past season, notching a career-high six goals and eight assists for 14 points. As captain of Laval, he notched 26 points (14G-12A) in 31 games.

In four NHL seasons, all with Montreal, the Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec native has compiled 15 points (6G-9A) in 44 career regular season games. At the AHL level across nine seasons with Laval, San Antonio, and Hamilton, Belzile has recorded 82 goals and 112 assists for 194 points in 319 games. In 2018-19, he set AHL career-highs in goals (19), assists (35) and points (54). That year, he was named to the AHL All-Star Game.

Belzile was the Canadiens' nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for 2022-23, awarded to "the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey." He also played in the ECHL for five seasons, winning the Kelly Cup championship twice (2013-14, 2016-17).
