Rangers Acquire Nycholat from Minnesota

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Lawrence Nycholat from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for goaltender Johan Holmqvist. Nycholat will report directly to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Nycholat, 23, has skated in 66 matches with the Houston Aeros (AHL) and has registered 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points, along with 155 penalty minutes. His 39 points ranks fifth on the team and second among defensemen. He also ranks second on the club with 155 penalty minutes. In 138 career matches with Houston, he has registered 14 goals and 39 assists for 53 points, along with 247 penalty minutes.

The 6-0, 192-pounder also spent four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1996-2000, skating in 280 matches and registering 59 goals and 150 assists for 209 points, along with 407 penalty minutes.

The Calgary, Alberta native was originally signed as a free agent by Minnesota on August 31, 2000.
