Rangers Acquire Left Wing Martin Sonnenberg

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired left wing Martin Sonnenberg from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for center Jeff Taffe.

Sonnenberg, 28, has appeared in 41 games with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season, registering 10 goals and seven assists along with 34 penalty minutes. He is tied for second on the Rampage with 10 goals, while his 17 points is tied for fourth on the team.

The 6-0, 197-pounder has recorded 124 goals and 142 assists for 266 points, along with 593 penalty minutes in 458 career AHL games with Syracuse, Wilkes Barre/Scranton, Saint John, Lowell, Utah and San Antonio of the American Hockey League (AHL). Sonnenberg has also skated in 63 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, collecting two goals and three assists, along with 21 penalty minutes.

The Wetaskiwin, Alberta native originally signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent on October 9, 1998.
