Rangers Acquire Left Wing Martin Rucinsky and Center Roman Lyashenko

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired left wing Martin Rucinsky (right) and center Roman Lyashenko from the Dallas Stars in exchange for center Manny Malhotra and left wing Barrett Heisten.
Rucinsky, 31, has appeared in 60 games with Dallas and Montreal this season, collecting eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points, along with 36 penalty minutes. Prior to the trade, he skated in 18 games with Montreal, registering two goals and six assists for eight points, along with 12 penalty minutes. He was acquired by Dallas, along with Benoit Brunet, on November 21 from Montreal in exchange for Donald Audette and Shaun Van Allen. In 42 games with Dallas, Rucinsky has totaled six goals and 10 assists for 16 points.
The 6-1, 205-pounder has appeared in 659 career NHL contests with the Edmonton Oilers, Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars, registering 175 goals and 244 assists for 419 points, along with 561 penalty minutes. He represented the Montreal Canadiens at the 1999-2000 NHL All-Star Game, posting 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points in 80 games. In addition, he captured a gold medal as a member of the Czech Republic team at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. The Most, Czech Republic native was originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers as their second choice, 20th overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Nordiques from Edmonton on March 10, 1992 in exchange for Ron Tugnutt and Brad Zavisha. On June 21, 1995, Rucinsky was acquired by the Canadiens, along with Jocelyn Thibault and Andrei Kovalenko, from Colorado in exchange for Patrick Roy and Mike Keane.
Lyashenko, 22, has appeared in five games with Dallas this season. He has skated in 58 games with Dallas' American Hockey League affiliate, the Utah Grizzlies, collecting 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points, along with 75 penalty minutes. The 6-0, 195-pounder has appeared in 122 career NHL contests with the Dallas Stars, registering 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points, along with 55 penalty minutes. In post-season action, Lyashenko has appeared in 17 playoff contests for Dallas, collecting two goals and one assist for three points, including the series-clinching goal in Game Seven of the 2000 Western Conference Finals vs. Colorado. A native of Murmansk, Russia, Lyashenko was selected by Dallas as their second choice, 52nd overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Malhotra, 21, appeared in 56 games with the Rangers this season, collecting seven goals and six assists for 13 points, along with 42 penalty minutes.
Heisten, 21, appeared in 10 games with the Rangers this season. He also appeared in 49 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), registering nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. Heisten was signed as free agent with the Rangers on June 11, 2001.
