New York Rangers President, General Manager and Head Coach Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired center Chad Wiseman from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for left wing Nils Ekman.
Wiseman, 23, skated in four matches with the Sharks last season, registering four penalty minutes. He spent the majority of the season with the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League (AHL), skating in 77 matches, registering 17 goals and 35 assists for 52 points, along with 44 penalty minutes. His 52 points and 35 assists each ranked second on the Barons.
The 6-0, 190-pounder has appeared in 153 career matches with Cleveland (AHL), tallying 38 goals and 64 assists for 102 points, along with 105 openalty minutes. Prior to joining Cleveland, Wiseman spent three seasons (1998-2001) in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Mississauga IceDogs and Plymouth Whalers, skating in 194 matches, collecting 60 goals and 115 assists for 175 points, along with 116 penalty minutes.
The Burlington, Ontario native was originally San Jose's eighth choice, 246th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
