Purinton Suspended Three Games By NHL

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

The National Hockey League announced today that Rangers defenseman Dale Purinton has been suspended for three games, without pay, for punching New York Islanders forward Jason Blake in a game on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Madison Square Garden. The incident occurred at 19:26 of the third period. The defenseman was assessed a minor penalty for roughing and a misconduct penalty.

Purinton, who was suspended for seven games for an incident in October, now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The 6-3, 226-pounder will miss the Rangers' next three games -- Wednesday, February 6 at Detroit, Friday, February 8 at Atlanta and Sunday, February 10 vs. Pittsburgh.
