Prospect Update: Andersson Scores Twice for Frolunda

Shesterkin Wins, Ronning, Virta Score

Rangers 2017 first-round pick Lias Andersson had two goals and four shots on goal in a 3-2 win for Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League.

The pair of goals were the 19-year-old's first two of the season for the Indians. Andersson has eight shots on goal and is averaging 15:44 through five games.

Filip Chytil, C, Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) - Chytil registered three points (one goal, two assists), including his first career AHL goal/assist/point, tallied the game-winning goal, and posted a plus-three rating on Oct. 14 at Springfield. The Rangers' first round pick (21st overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft also posted a plus-one rating while making his AHL debut on Oct. 13 vs. Toronto. Chytil became the youngest player to appear in an AHL game since Mario Tremblay in 1974. He leads the Wolf Pack in plus/minus rating (plus-four), is tied for second in assists (two), and is tied for third in points (three) thus far in 2017-18, and he also leads the team in points per game (1.50) thus far this season.
 
Lias Andersson, C, Frolunda Indians (SHL) - Andersson registered two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal in the third period, won seven of 12 faceoffs (58.3%), recorded three shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating while helping Frolunda earn a 3-1 win in a Champions Hockey League (CHL) game against Rapaces de Gap on Oct. 10. The Rangers' first round pick (seventh overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has tallied four points (two goals, two assists) and a plus-two rating in five CHL games with Frolunda this season, and he has posted a multi-point game in each of his last two CHL contests.
 
Igor Shesterkin, G, SKA St. Petersburg (KHL) - Shesterkin posted a 1-0-1 record, along with a 1.48 GAA, a .941 SV% (48 saves on 51 shots), and 1 SO in two appearances during the week. Shesterkin stopped all 21 shots he faced to earn his fourth shutout of the season on Oct. 9 against Spartak Moscow. He has posted a 14-0-1 record, along with a 1.21 GAA, a .954 SV%, and 4 SO in 15 appearances this season. Shesterkin has allowed one goal or fewer in 11 of his 15 appearances in 2017-18.
 
The Rangers' fourth round pick (118th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has registered a 45-4-2 record, along with a 1.52 GAA, a .942 SV%, and 12 SO in 54 appearances since the start of last season. Shesterkin ranks second in the KHL in wins (14), GAA (1.21), SV% (.954), and shutouts (four) thus far in 2017-18.

Prospect Update: Chytil With Goal, Two Assists for Wolf Pack

Rangers 2017 first-round pick Filip Chytil had the game-winning goal and added a pair of assists for the Hartford Wolfpack Saturday in a 4-3 win over Springfield.

Vinni Lettieri picked up his first career American Hockey League goal on assists from Chytil and Alexei Bereglazov in the first period. Boo Nieves scored his second of the season and John Gilmour added his first. Chytil's game-winner came 9:41 into the third off an assist from Lettieri.

Chris Nell made 33 saves to improve to 3-0-0 on the early season.

Prospect Update: Nieves Leads Pack to Win Over Toronto

Boo Nieves scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Hartford's 5-2 win over the Toronto Marlies Friday night.

Adam Tambellini scored his third of the season, while Ryan Graves and Alexei Bereglazov had assists. Chris Nell made 25 saves to improve to 2-0. Filip Chytil became the youngest player since Mario Tremblay in October 1974 to appear in an American Hockey League game.

He has posted a 13-0-0 record, along with a 1.17 GAA, a .957 SV%, and 3 SO in 13 appearances this season. Shesterkin has allowed one goal or fewer in 10 of his 13 appearances in 2017-18, including each of his last seven appearances (7-0-0 record, 0.73 GAA, .973 SV%, 2 SO over the span).

The Rangers' fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft tallied two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal in overtime, on Oct. 5 at Windsor, and he registered two assists on Oct. 6 at London.
 
Gettinger has recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) in seven games with Sault Ste. Marie thus far in 2017-18. He is tied for second in the OHL in points and ranks third in the league in shots on goal (35) thus far this season.
 
Ty Ronning, RW, Vancouver Giants (WHL) - Ronning tallied three points (one goal, two assists) and registered 11 shots on goal in two games. The Rangers' seventh round pick (201st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft recorded two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal, led all skaters with seven shots on goal, and posted a plus-two rating on Oct. 6 vs. Tri-City.
 
Ronning has notched six points (four goals, two assists) in five games with Vancouver in 2017-18. He leads the Giants in goals (four), game-winning goals (two), and shots on goal (29) and is tied for the team lead in points (six) and plus/minus rating (plus-three) thus far this season. Ronning is also tied for sixth in the WHL in shots on goal in 2017-18.

Prospect Update: Gropp Scores in Wolf Pack Opener

NCAA underway, OHL and WHL updates

Ryan Gropp scored his first professional goal Friday night in a 5-4 Hartford loss to Charlotte in the team's season opener. Adam Tambellini added a goal and Ryan Graves had an assist. Goaltender Alexander Georgiev had 19 saves in the loss.

Defenseman Alexei Bereglazov finished with three shots while Neal Pionk had two.

Prospect Update: Gettinger Scores OT-Winner; Shesterkin Keeps Rolling

Forward Tim Gettinger scored the overtime-winner and added an assist as Sault Ste. Marie edged Sean Day and the Windsor Spitfires, 4-3, in the Ontario Hockey League. Gettinger is off to a strong start with the Greyhounds, notching four goals and four assists for eight points through six games. 

The contest was Day's first of the year, and he finished with one shot on goal.

Crawley Earns ELC, Looks to Round Out Game in Hartford

Defenseman Brandon Crawley has taken the opportunities given to him since June and ran with them, turning in a strong first camp with the Rangers that led to him signing his entry-level contract with the organization on Monday.
 
"It was real exciting. My parents were pretty excited, too," Crawley told NYRangers.com on Tuesday. "Excited for the next three years here, hopefully which is going to be a real good experience."
