Prospect Update: Wolf Pack Explode for Seven Against Penguins

Gabriel Fontaine and John Gilmour had two goals each to lead the Hartford Wolf Pack to a 7-3 victory over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League Friday night.

Tony DeAngelo and Ryan Graves also scored while Ryan Gropp, Dawson Leedahl, Adam Chapie, and Gilmour had assists. Peter Holland, Ryan Sproul and Steven Fogarty each had two assists and Marek Mazanec made 31 saves to improve to 2-0 with the Wolf Pack.

Prospect Update: Andersson, Chytil Named to WJC Prelim Rosters

Both Rangers 2017 first-round picks, Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil , have been named to their respective preliminary rosters for the 2018 World Junior Championship tournament that begins Dec. 26 in Buffalo.

Andersson leads a high-powered Swedish roster looking to improve on its fourth-place finish at last year's tournament. The seventh overall pick from last year's draft is having his best season in the Swedish Hockey League thus far with Frolunda, where he has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in just 20 games. His previous career-highs came last year when he had nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points in 42 games with HV71.

The 19-year-old had three goals in seven games for Sweden in last year's tournament. He represented Sweden at the 2016 U18 competition where he had five goals and nine points in seven contests.

Three Stars of the Week

Sean Day tallied four assists/points and posted a plus-two rating in three games during the week. He established a single-game OHL career-high with three assists and tied a single-game OHL career-high with three points on Nov. 30 vs. North Bay. The Rangers' third round pick (81st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has recorded a point in seven of the last nine games (one goal, eight assists), in 11 of the last 14 games (three goals, 12 assists), and in 15 of the last 19 games (four goals, 15 assists). He ranks second on Windsor in assists (16) and is tied for fourth on the team in points (20) this season. In addition, he leads team defensemen in goals (four), assists, and points in 2017-18. Day also ranks 10th among OHL defensemen (min. 20 games played) in points per game this season (0.87), and he is tied for 11th among OHL defensemen in assists in 2017-18.

Andersson has also tallied 11 points (five goals, six assists) in his last 12 SHL games with Frolunda, as well as 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in 20 SHL contests with Frolunda this season. Among SHL players younger than 20 years old, Andersson ranks second in goals (seven) and points (13) in 2017-18. Andersson also ranks third on Frolunda in goals and ranks fifth on the team in points this season.
 
Ty Ronning
tallied two goals/points and registered 20 shots on goal in three games during the week. Ronning registered a goal, led all skaters with eight shots on goal, and was selected as the game's First Star on Dec. 1 at Prince George. The Rangers' seventh round pick (201st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has recorded a goal in 15 of the last 19 contests (20 goals, nine assists over the span). Ronning has registered 26 goals in 29 games with Vancouver in 2017-18, and he has recorded at least one goal in 19 of the 29 contests. He leads the Giants in goals (26), points (38), plus/minus rating (plus-11), and shots on goal (158) thus far this season. In addition, Ronning leads the WHL in shots on goal and is tied for second in the league in goals in 2017-18.

Prospect Update: Gropp With Three Goals in Two Games

Ryan Gropp, Adam Chapie and Vince Pedrie all scored goals in Hartford's 5-4 shootout win over Rochester Friday night in the American Hockey League. Brandon Crawley had two assists while Pedrie, Vinni Lettieri and Neal Pionk had one helper each. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev finished with 34 saves for the win.

Rangers Prospect Morgan Barron Off to Hot Start With Cornell

2017 sixth round pick skates The Garden for first time with Big Red

Rangers prospect Morgan Barron had his expectations set for Saturday's game at Madison Square Garden where he and his Cornell teammates would face off against Boston University at Red Hot Hockey.

Then he stepped out onto the ice and those expectations went out the window.

"It was more than I could have imagined, and I had put expectations on it," Barron told NYRangers.com. "Being able to step on the ice, it was pretty cool. Even for the other guys, my whole team, we were all definitely excited and it's a highlight for the year. It was pretty awesome."

Tim Gettinger registered a goal/point in each of the three games he played during the week, recorded six points (three goals, three assists) and a plus-six rating in the three contests. The Rangers' fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft extended his goal/point streak to five games, and he has registered eight points (five goals, three assists) and a plus-eight rating during the stretch. Gettinger has recorded 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) and a plus-13 rating in 25 games with Sault Ste. Marie this season. Gettinger is tied for sixth in the OHL in shots on goal this season (99). In addition, he leads Sault Ste. Marie in shots on goal, is tied for second in goals, ranks third in points, is tied for fourth in plus/minus rating, and ranks fifth in assists in 2017-18.

Morgan Barron recorded two assists, both of which were primary assists, and registered four shots on goal to help Cornell defeat Boston University on Nov. 25 at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers' sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has notched a point in eight of 10 games with Cornell this season, and Cornell has earned a win in all eight contests. He is tied for the team lead in assists (six) and game-winning goals (two), is tied for second in points (nine), is tied for third in goals (three), and is tied for sixth in plus/minus rating (plus-four) thus far this season.

Prospect Update: Andersson With Three-Point Night for Frolunda

Forward Lias Andersson picked up a goal and two assists with five shots on goal in Frolunda's 5-1 win over Linkoping Saturday in the Swedish Hockey League. The seventh overall pick in last June's NHL Draft has six goals and five assists for 11 points, good enough for fifth in scoring on Frolunda, despite appearing in just 18 games this year. 

Andersson is now just eight points shy of his total from last year with HV71, when he had 19 points in 42 contests.

Ronning Not Focused on Numbers During 10-Game Goal Streak

Rangers Prospect Has Sights Set on Playoffs With Vancouver of WHL

Ty Ronning has 13 goals during his current 10-game goal streak that's given him 23 total in 23 games thus far with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League. 

He's two shy of his total from a year ago with 45 games to spare. He's leading his team with 34 points and is a plus-player for the first time in his junior career. 

But he's not interested in personal achievements.

"I haven't really been focusing on it to be honest," Ronning told NYRangers.com in a phone interview Sunday. "I've been focusing on trying to win games and play the right way.

Prospect Update: Halverson With Career-High Saves in Win

Ronning Extends Goal Streak to Nine Games

Goaltender Brandon Halverson made a career-high 44 saves and Dawson Leedahl chipped in with his fourth goal of the year in a 4-1 win over Orlando in the ECHL. Halverson three straight starts and has combined for 118 saves during that time frame. 

"Brandon Halverson was tremendous in the pipes, and he played a key role for us tonight," Greenville head coach Brian Gratz said.
