David Quinn Named Rangers Head Coach

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has named David Quinn the team's new Head Coach.

"I am very pleased to welcome David Quinn to the New York Rangers," said James Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Madison Square Garden Company. "David brings a diverse and successful coaching resume that includes extensive work in developing young talent. I am confident he is an excellent fit for our team, and know he will work tirelessly with Glen, Jeff and our entire organization to execute our plan to build the next Rangers Stanley Cup contending team."

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has recalled forwards Matt Beleskey and Steven Fogarty from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Beleskey has skated in 35 AHL games this season with the Providence Bruins and Wolf Pack, registering five goals and seven assists for 12 points, along with 26 penalty minutes. He has tallied six points (one goal, five assists) in 14 games with Hartford after he was acquired by the Rangers. In addition, Beleskey has skated in 14 NHL games with the Bruins in 2017-18.

The New York Rangers announced that Henrik Lundqvist has been named the winner of the 2017-18 Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, presented by Northwell Health.

The Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award is presented annually to the Ranger who, as chosen by the fans, "goes above and beyond the call of duty." This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award. The award, which has been given annually since the 1987-88 season, bears the name of New York City Police Detective Steven McDonald, who was shot and injured in the line of duty on July 12, 1986 and passed away on January 10, 2017.

Rangers Assign Alexandar Georgiev to Hartford

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has assigned goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Georgiev has appeared in 10 games with the Rangers this season, posting a 4-4-1 record, along with a 3.15 GAA and a .918 SV%. He made his NHL debut on Feb. 22 at Montreal, becoming the first Bulgarian-born goaltender in NHL history and the first goaltender of Russian nationality to appear in a game with the Rangers in franchise history. Georgiev stopped 38 of 40 shots he faced in his NHL debut against the Canadiens, establishing a franchise record for saves by a goaltender in his first NHL game. In addition, he became the first goaltender in Rangers history to make 30 or more saves in each of his first five NHL starts.
