The New York sports media can be very demanding at times for professional athletes. Would anyone expect anything less from the largest media market in the world?
On Tuesday, January 7, the New York sports media contingent grew by 12 as fourth and fifth graders from P.S. 115 in Floral Park, New York had the opportunity to get a taste of TV sports reporting, on a much less demanding scale.
The kids, members of the Rangers' after-school club at P.S. 115, were given the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes at the MSG SportsDesk studios at The Garden. Their afternoon began with a tour of the SportsDesk studios and a chat with MSG Network's Al Trautwig, who prepped the kids on standard interviewing procedures.
Then it was time for the kids to take their turn behind the bright lights of the SportsDesk set and have a little fun as they took turns interviewing Rangers defenseman Tom Poti.
It was a great experience for the kids, who all expressed interest in pursuing a future career in the sports business. Who knows - maybe in 15 years, the next SportsDesk anchor or MSG Network reporter will be able to reminisce about their first interview and think back to their experience on January 7, 2003.
