Team Notes

  • Ryan Spoonerrecorded a power play goal and tied for the team-high with four shots on goal. Spooner has tallied a goal in both preseason games he has played this year. He registered 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 20 games with the Rangers last season after he was acquired from Boston on Feb. 25, 2018. From the time he was acquired until the end of the 2017-18 season, Spooner tied for the team lead in assists and points.
  • Peter Hollandtallied the first goal of the game, drew a penalty, and posted a plus-one rating in tonight's game. Holland, who was acquired by the Rangers from Montreal on Nov. 30, 2017, recorded four points (one goal, three assists) in 23 games with the Blueshirts in 2017-18. He was tied for 12th in the AHL in points at time he was initially recalled by the Rangers last season on Jan. 15, 2018 (33; 13 goals and 20 assists in 36 games with Laval and Hartford).
  • Mats Zuccarellonotched a power play assist and posted a plus-one rating while playing in his first preseason game of the year. Zuccarello led the Rangers in several categories last season, including assists (37), points (53), primary assists (23), power play assists (16), takeaways (69), and shootout goals (four). He led the Rangers in points for the third consecutive season (2015-16 - 2017-18) and for the fourth time in his career. Zuccarello is one of six NHL players who have either led their team or tied for the team lead in points in each of the last three seasons, and he is one of five players who have led or tied for the team lead in points on the same team in each of the last three seasons. The other five players are Johnny Gaudreau (Calgary), Patrick Kane (Chicago), Taylor Hall (Edmonton/New Jersey), Erik Karlsson (Ottawa), and Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay).
  • Alexandar Georgievmade 17 saves in tonight's contest, including 13 saves on 14 shots in the first period. Georgiev appeared in 10 games with the Rangers in 2017-18 and became the first Bulgarian-born player to appear in an NHL game. He also made 30 or more saves in each of his first five career NHL starts during the 2017-18 season, becoming the first Rangers goaltender to make at least 30 saves in each of his first five career NHL starts in franchise history (since shots on goal and saves were first tracked in 1955-56).
  • Cody McLeodwas assessed a fighting major and posted a plus-one rating in tonight's contest. He was tied for second in the NHL in major penalties (13) and ranked sixth in the NHL in penalty minutes (111) in 2017-18. In addition, McLeod recorded 76 hits in 25 games with the Rangers last season (3.0 hits per game), and he led the Rangers (min. two games played) in hits per game in 2017-18.
  • Jimmy Veseytied for the team-high with four shots on goal in tonight's contest. He has registered 10 shots on goal over his first two preseason games this year, and he either led the team or tied for the team lead in shots on goal in both games.
  • Adam McQuaidplayed in his first game of the preseason this year tonight, and he served as one of the Rangers' three alternate captains. McQuaid, who was acquired by the Rangers from Boston on Sept. 11, 2018, has recorded 100 or more hits in five of his nine NHL seasons and 100 or more blocked shots in four of his nine NHL seasons.
