The Rangers played a brilliant first half of their game on Tuesday night in Montreal, building up a 5-0 lead. They had to settle for only one point, however, because the Canadiens stormed all the way back to force OT and win 6-5 in a shootout.

* The Rangers concluded their season series against the Canadiens with a 3-0-1 record. Two of the matches were decided by the shootout and one was concluded in the overtime session.
* Brendan Shanahan scored two goals, giving him three in the three games since he returned to the lineup from injury. He now has 20 goals on the season, the 19th consecutive season he has reached the 20-goal plateau. Only Hall-of-Famer Gordie Howe has produced more consecutive 20-goals seasons. Howe did it 22 straight years.
* Jaromir Jagr recorded four assists to give him 53 points on the season, upping his career total to 1,581 points, moving him into 10th place on the all-time NHL list, just ahead of Raymond Bourque.
* Brandon Dubinsky
was 1-1-2 and is now 7-8-15 in his last 18 matches.
* Chris Drury scored his 20th goal of the season, the eighth time he has reached that total in his career. He has eight goals in his last 10 games.
* Sean Avery
netted his ninth goal, and fourth in his last four games. He led the team with six shots on goal.
