POST-GAME NOTES: Rangers 4, Buffalo Sabres 3

The Rangers sent a message to the other Eastern Conference playoff hopefuls on Saturday, as Sean Avery broke a 3-3 tie in the third period to give the Blueshirts a 4-3 win over the Sabres in Buffalo. The victory lifted the Rangers into sixth place.

* Sean Avery's game-winner was his 10th goal of the season and fifth in the last five games. Three of Avery's 10 goals have been game-winners.

* Jaromir Jagr's first-period goal snapped a 12-game goal-scoring drought. Jagr has seven points in his last four games.

* Henrik Lundqvist stopped 26 of 29 Buffalo shots for his third win over the Sabres this season. Lundqvist is now 4-2-1 in career regular-season games against Buffalo

* Brandon Dubinsky had his second straight two-point game and is now 8-9-17 in his last 19 games.

* Rangers defenseman Paul Mara not return after sustaining an injury when he was hit by Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta in the defensive zone. The game was only three minutes old at the time the Rangers lost Mara's services.
