NYR Prospects in Postseason: March 28 Recap

Thirteen Rangers prospects competed in postseason play on Tuesday night in the OHL, WHL and QMJHL playoffs, and several had big nights for their teams.

Here is a player-by-player look at their performances:

CallahanRyan Callahan

Position: Right Wing
Team: Guelph Storm (OHL)
Playoff Series: Guelph vs. Saginaw (Guelph leads 3-0)
Callahan's Playoff Scoring to Date: 3 games, 3 goals, 3 assists
March 28: Guelph 4, Saginaw 1 (at Guelph)

Callahan had a four-point game with two goals and two assists in leading Guelph to a big win at home. He began his offensive outburst by scoring the game's first goal on a power play at 15:58 of the first period and followed that up with the first assist on Matt D'Agostino's eventual game-winner at 8:32 of the second. Leading 2-0, Callahan and the Storm weren't done, as Callahan scored shorthanded at 6:07 of the third period to make it 3-0 and then helped put the game away with the second assist on Tyler Doig's empty-netter with 26 seconds remaining in the game.

Russell erupted a goal and two assists as the Ice edged the Rockets at home to regain the series lead. After his team fell behind in the first period, Russell tied the game at 1-1 with a goal just 57 seconds into the middle period. He added a second assist on Ben Maxwell's goal at 7:51 of the second period as Kootenay took a 3-2 lead and later had a second assist on Adam Cracknell's game-winner at 13:53 of the third.

Cliché scored his first playoff goal of 2006 and also had an assist to help the Maineiacs take a 2-1 lead in their first-round series with the Mooseheads. Cliché had the lone assist on Mathieu Aubin's eventual game-winner, a shorthanded tally at 9:00 of the first to give Lewiston a 2-0 lead. Then, on a power play late in the second period, Cliché notched his first goal at 16:21 to make it 3-1.

The Rangers' first-round pick last year, Staal continued to thrive in postseason, picking up assists on both goals in a shutout win over Kingston. He began his night with a first assist on Benoit Pouliot's power-play goal at 17:58 of the first period and later had a second assist on Pouliot's even-strength goal at 13:51 of the second period.

Dupont's Playoff Scoring to Date: 3 games, 1 goal, 1 assist
March 28: Lethbridge 6, Calgary 4 (at Calgary)

Dupont had the first assist on Derek LeBlanc's power-play goal at 5:13 of the first period, which pulled the Hitmen into a 1-1 tie. Dupont also had six penalty minutes in the game.

BahenskyZdenek Bahensky

Team: Saskatoon Blades (WHL)

Bahensky's Playoff Scoring to Date: 3 games, 0 goals, 1 assist
March 28: Regina 5, Saskatoon 4 (OT) (at Regina)

Bahensky got his first playoff point with a second assist on Chad Klassen's goal at 16:00 of the third period. That goal forced overtime, where the Blades fell for the first time in the series.

PsurnyRoman Psurny

Psurny had the second assist on Derek Dorsett's power-play goal at 18:32 of the second period as the Tigers took a commanding lead en route to another 7-1 rout of the Broncos.

PyattTom Pyatt

Team: Saginaw Spirit (OHL)

Pyatt's Playoff Scoring to Date: 3 games, 0 goals, 1 assist
March 27: Guelph 4, Saginaw 1 (at Guelph)

The Spirit lost their third straight, but Pyatt did register his first playoff point with the first assist on his team's lone goal, scored by Patrick McNeill on a power play at 16:47 of the third period.

DubinskyBrandon Dubinsky
Position: Center
Team: Portland Winter Hawks (WHL)
Playoff Series: Portland vs. Seattle (Portland leads 2-1)
Dubinsky's Playoff Scoring to Date: 3 games, 1 goal, 3 assists
March 28: Portland 2, Seattle 1 (at Portland)

Dubinsky, the Portland regular-season MVP, was held without a point as his team took a 2-1 lead in the series, thanks to a pair of third-period goals by Brian Woolger.

Sauer was on the ice for both of Portland's goals, although he was held without a point for the first time in the series.

Flatt did not record a point in his team's victory. He had four penalty minutes in the game.

One of the hottest scorers through the first two games of the OHL playoffs, Petruzalek cooled off as his team swept the series from St. Mike's. He did not crack the scoring column, but had two penalty minutes in the game.
