NYR Prospects in Postseason: March 25 Recap

Seventeen Rangers prospects competed in postseason play on Saturday night in the OHL, WHL and QMJHL playoffs, as well as the NCAA Tournament.

Here is a player-by-player look at their performances:

MooreGreg Moore
Position: Right Wing
Team: Maine Black Bears (NCAA)
Tournament status: Through to quarterfinals
March 25: Maine 6, Harvard 1 (at Albany, N.Y.)

Moore helped the Black Bears get off to a strong start in the NCAA tournament, scoring an empty net goal in Maine's 6-1 win over Harvard. The goal, at 16:24 of the third period, gave Maine a 5-1 lead, and the victory propelled Maine into a quarterfinal showdown with Michigan State.

March 25: Kelowna 5, Kootenay 1 (at Kelowna)

Flatt, who did not have any goals during the WHL regular season, found the net in the playoffs, pulling the Ice into a 1-1 tie at 4:38 of the first period. Flatt scored what ended up being Kootenay's only goal in Game 2 against the defending WHL champions. He also had four penalty minutes in the game.

March 25: Kelowna 5, Kootenay 1 (at Kelowna)

Dubinsky set up the game-winner by Kyle Bailey on a power play at 1:12 of the first period, helping the Winter Hawks even their series with the Thunderbirds.

Staal's Playoff Scoring to Date: 2 games, 0 goals, 2 assists
March 25: Sudbury 4, Kingston 1 (at Kingston)

Staal played a key role in helping the Wolves come back to even the series. Sudbury built up a commanding 4-0 lead by the late stages of the game, and Staal had the second assist on Benoit Pouliot's power-play goal at 6:17 of the second period, which put the Wolves up 2-0. That goal stood up as the game-winner.

Sauer notched the second assist on the lone Portland goal and now has four points in his team's first two postseason games.

Cliche set up the game's lone goal, registering the first assist on Eric Castonguay's tally at 1:42 of the second as the Maineiacs rebounded from a disappointing performance in Game 1.

Paiement teamed up with Cliché and also had an assist on the Castonguay goal that evened Lewiston's playoff series with Halifax.

Playoff Series: Medicine Hat vs. Swift Current (Medicine Hat leads 2-0)
Psurny's Playoff Scoring to Date: 2 games, 1 goal, 2 assists
March 25: Medicine Hat 7, Swift Current 1 (at Medicine Hat)

Psurny had the first assist on Derek Dorsett's game-winning power-play goal at 12:48 of the first period. The goal gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Psurny also took a minor penalty in the game.

Team: Michigan State Spartans (NCAA)
Tournament status: Through to quarterfinals
March 25: Michigan State 1, New Hampshire 0 (at Albany, N.Y.)

Potter had two penalty minutes in a hard-fought game that saw the fourth-seeded Spartans move on to a quarterfinal matchup with Maine.

RyanBilly Ryan

Ryan didn't score any points, but his Black Bears team moved on to a quarterfinal game against Michigan State.

ReeseDylan Reese
Position: Defense
Team: Harvard Crimson (NCAA)
Tournament status: Eliminated in first round
March 25: Maine 6, Harvard 1 (at Albany, N.Y.)

Reese, a hero for the Crimson with six points in the ECAC playoffs, did not register a point in his team's final game of the season. Harvard ended the season at 21-12-2 as Reese registered four goals and 15 assists.

CrabbJoey Crabb
Position: Right Wing
Team: Colorado College Tigers (NCAA)
Tournament status: Eliminated in first round
March 25: Cornell 3, Colorado College 2 (at Green Bay, Wis.)

Crabb and the Tigers (24-16-2) fell to ECAC powerhouse Cornell after losing a 2-0 lead in the second period. Crabb did not register a point against the Big Red, but he finished his season with 18 goals and 43 points in 42 games.

Team: Boston University Terriers (NCAA)
Tournament status: Eliminated in quarterfinals
March 25: Boston College 5, Boston University 0 (at Worcester, Mass.)

After a big first-round win over Nebraska-Omaha, the third-seeded Terriers (25-10-4) collapsed against archrival Boston College, as Eagles goalie Cory Schneider stopped 28 shots for the shutout. Roche, who had two points on Friday, was called for a penalty on Saturday and ended his season with 17 goals and 14 assists in 39 games.

One night after scoring the winning goal in double overtime, Russell had a much quieter Game 2 as he did not crack the scoresheet in the Ice's loss.

Dupont didn't pick up any points, but he did have a busy night with 14 penalty minutes, including a 10-minute misconduct at 7:49 of the third period.

Team: Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
Playoff Series: Saskatoon vs. Regina (Saskatoon leads 2-0)

Bahensky had four penalty minutes in the Blades' second straight win, bringing his series PIM total to eight.

Koverko didn't register any points, but did register a minor penalty as the Attack took a commanding series lead on the road.
