NHL honors Jagr as Offensive Player of Month

NEW YORK -- Rangers right wing Jaromir Jagr, who led all players with 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) in 16 games, has been named the NHL Offensive Player of the Month for March.

Jagr edged Buffalo Sabres center Daniel Briere (8-18--26 in 16 games), Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin (11-13--24 in 15 games), Anaheim Mighty Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne (8-16--24 in 15 games) and Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom (3-17--20 in 15 games) for the award.

Jagr, who finished with month with an 11-game point streak (9-13--22), tallied 24 percent of Rangers goals in March and earned a point on 53 percent of them. He became the first NHL player in 2005-06 to reach 50 goals March 24 at Florida, tied the Rangers franchise record for goals in a season (Adam Graves, 1993-94) with his 52nd March 27 against Buffalo and broke the franchise record for points in a season (Jean Ratelle, 1971-72) with his 110th as part of a four-assist effort against the New York Islanders March 29.

Jagr leads the NHL with 114 points (52 goals, 62 assists), eight ahead San Jose's Joe Thornton, as he vies for his sixth Art Ross Trophy as the League's top scorer. The Rangers (41-21-12, 94 points) lead th Atlantic Division, two points ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers.

This is the second time this season that the league has named Jagr its Offensive Player of the Month. He also earned the award for December.
