New York Pee Wee Rangers Storm to 5-0 Win Over Anaheim Junior Ducks

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

On-Ice AM Sessions: New York Ranger alumni Dan Blackburn joined players for morning skate instructing players on even play situations and assisting the goaltenders in their training as well. Point shot 1 on 1 confrontations in front of the net and 2 on 2 tight area games were two drills coaches used to breakdown the offensive concepts.

On-Ice PM Sessions: Programming shifted to odd man situations with stations that created 3 on 2 situations, quick up pivots and neutral zone defensive pivots. Afternoon lesson plans created game like play to develop body positioning, communication and confined space development.

Dynamic Training: Was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Thursday’s program utilized hurdles to build player leg power and explosiveness.

Classroom Session: Reviewed the weeks lessons on physical fitness, hydration and exercise with a nutritional themed game of jeopardy.

Off-Ice Skills Sessions: Coaching staff discussed the fundamentals of shooting high toward the near and far side of the net with the campers. Follow through and blade positioning were two points stressed during the entire session. Goaltenders participated in elimination games designed to develop greater hand eye coordination.
