Messier Skates in 1,616th Career NHL Game

Skating in his 1,616th career game tonight vs. the St. Louis Blues at MSG, Rangers captain Mark Messier moved past former defenseman Larry Murphy into sole possession of second place on the NHL’s all-time games played list.

Messier tied Murphy at 1,615 on Saturday vs. the Bruins, five days after moving past former Boston defenseman Ray Bourque for third place on the all-time list.

The 41-year old Edmonton, Alberta native ranks in the top seven of every major offensive category in NHL history, placing second in games played (1,616), seventh in goals (663), fourth in assists (1,147) and third in points (1,810).
