by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

Mark Messier added another milestone to his remarkable career tonight as he moved into sole possession of third place on the NHL’s all-time games played list. Skating in his 1,613th career NHL match, the Rangers captain moved past Ray Bourque on the all-time regular season list.

Within the next week, Messier will also look to surpass former defenseman Larry Murphy, who currently ranks second on the all-time list at 1,615 career matches.

In his ninth season with the Rangers, Messier has tallied 218 goals and 395 assists for 613 points in 554 career games with the Blueshirts.
