On Thursday December 8th, Rangers Captain Ryan McDonagh and Alternate Captain, Derek Stepan lent a hand encouraging youth hockey families to donate their gently used equipment to Riverbank State Park Youth Hockey. The two were on site at the Chase Bank Branch at Columbia University to sign autographs and take photos with fans for the Rangers Assist program which falls under the New York Rangers youth hockey “Go Skate!” platform. The goal of Rangers Assist is to provide support to rinks and youth hockey programs and therefore breaking down barriers to entry, introduce the sport to new players, and keep the sport growing in our community.
Fans who donated equipment were entered for chances to win exclusive prizes including tickets to the Riverbank celebratory event being held on Wednesday, December 10th at Riverbank State Park. The event will feature a Try Hockey for Free session, a cross-ice jamboree, player appearances and an exhibition game featuring New York Rangers alumni. In addition to the donations provided by Rangers Assist and equipment collected from the Chase Bank appearance, all the revenue generated from ticket sales will all go towards the Riverbank Youth Hockey program.
Riverbank Youth Hockey helps make the sport more accessible and affordable to participants by providing all of the necessary hockey equipment on loan to its players and keeping registration fees to a minimum. Riverbank is the 5th recipient of the Rangers Assist initiative which began in 2012. In addition, Rangers Assist equipment collection bins can be found at 30 rinks throughout the tri-state area.
