Manny Malhotra to Join Canadian National Junior Team

New York Rangers President and General Manager Neil Smith announced today that Rangers center Manny Malhotra will join the Canadian National Junior Team and will participate in the World Junior Championships to be held in Sweden (Skelleftea and Umea). He will join the club for practice tomorrow. Team Canada will open the tournament on Saturday, December 25 vs. Finland.
Malhotra, 19, has appeared in 23 contests with the Rangers this season, collecting four penalty minutes. He tallied eight goals and eight assists for 16 points, along with 13 penalty minutes in 73 games with New York last season, his rookie campaign.
The 6-2, 210-pound center notched 32 goals and 63 assists for 95 points, along with 55 penalty minutes in 118 career junior matches with Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League. He represented Team Canada at the 1998 World Junior Championships in Finland, appearing in all seven matches with the club. Malhotra also captained the gold medal-winning Team Canada squad at the under-18 Tournament in the Czech Republic in 1997.
The native of Mississauga, Ontario was New York's first choice, seventh overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
