Lundqvist Set To Go All The Way In Calgary Tonight

by Jim Cerny / New York Rangers

Henrik Lundqvist is set to start in goal this evening when the Rangers skate against the Flames out in Calgary, the Blueshirts third pre-season contest---and first in nearly a week. Lundqvist started last Monday's pre-season opener in New Jersey and stopped 14 of 15 shots over 30 minutes 46 seconds of action. Head coach Alain Vigneault said that Lundqvist, who will also start against Vancouver on Thursday, will play the entire game this evening, with rookie Cam Talbot serving as his back up.

Vigneault plans on taking a look at several of the youngsters competing for a spot on the Opening Night roster this evening in Calgary, while also getting an extended look at the line of Chris Kreider-Brad Richards-Rick Nash which has been together throughout training camp, and which played together last Monday against the Devils.

Joining Kreider, Richards, and Nash up front tonight will be rookies Danny Kristo, Oscar Lindberg, Jesper Fast, and Marek Hrivik, along with veterans Brian Boyle, Taylor Pyatt, Darroll Powe, and Arron Asham, and the rugged Brandon Mashinter.

On defense in Calgary, Vigneault will use four of his presumed Top Six. Marc Staal will pair with Michael Del Zotto, while John Moore teams up with Anton Stralman. The third pairing will consist of two defensemen fighting for spots on the team: Stu Bickel and Justin Falk.

After tonight's game the Rangers travel to Edmonton where they will face the Oilers Tuesday night, with Martin Biron starting in goal for the Blueshirts. Then the team heads to Vancouver Thursday and Las Vegas for a game against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday.
