Lundqvist salute

The New York Rangers announced that Henrik Lundqvist has been named the winner of the 2017-18 Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, presented by Northwell Health.
The Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award is presented annually to the Ranger who, as chosen by the fans, "goes above and beyond the call of duty." This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award. The award, which has been given annually since the 1987-88 season, bears the name of New York City Police Detective Steven McDonald, who was shot and injured in the line of duty on July 12, 1986 and passed away on January 10, 2017.

This year, in honor of Steven's legacy, Rangers fans had an opportunity to nominate those who continuously give the Extra Effort in their community. A select group of these nominees will be honored tonight as part of the Rangers' Blueshirts of Our Backs Ceremony following tonight's game.

Lundqvist has appeared in 60 games with the Rangers this season, posting a 25-24-7 record, along with a 2.94 GAA, a .915 SV%, and 2 SO. Lundqvist also became the first goaltender in NHL history to earn 20 or more wins in each of his first 13 NHL seasons, and he also became the first goaltender in NHL history to register at least 20 wins in 13 consecutive seasons at any point in a career.
