Los Angeles Acquires Armstrong from Blueshirts

The New York Rangers acquired a conditional draft selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for center Derek Armstrong today.

Armstrong, 29, played in 44 games for SC Bern of the Swiss League last season recording 53 points (17 goals, 36 assists) and 60 penalty minutes. Prior to playing with SC Bern, the 6-0, 195-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario spent three seasons in the Rangers organization and helped guide the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) to the 2000 Calder Cup championship.

Armstrong was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the sixth round (128th overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft and has appeared in 86 career NHL games with the Rangers, Islanders and Ottawa Senators, recording 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) and 56 penalty minutes.
