Kovalev Garners NHL Honor for January

Rangers right wing Alexei Kovalev was named the Powerade/NHL Outstanding Player for January in fan voting on through the month of February. The right winger tallied four goals and six assists for 10 points, along with a plus-six rating in 41 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In Kovalev's name, Powerade will donate product and equipment to the Mount Vernon Ice Skating and Hockey Club.

The Mount Vernon Ice Skating and Hockey Club was founded in 1997 to provide the inner-city children of Mount Vernon, New York the opportunity to learn to skate and play ice hockey. Located north of New York City, the hockey club is managed by local firefighters, police officers and players' parents, who volunteer their time.

Each year, more than 100 players and parents participate in community events to raise funds for equipment as well as other charitable organizations.
