Forward Hugh Jessiman and defenseman Corey Potter each collected assists as the United States combined for 12 goals in a pair of wins over Sweden and Finland to begin the 2003 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp tonight at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.
USA Team Blue began the exhibition tournament with a 7-3 victory against Sweden, while USA Team White posted a 5-2 win over Finland in the nightcap.
Jessiman, skating for Team Blue, notched a third period assist on Ryan Potulny's goal in the 7-3 win. Potter, representing Team White, collected an assist on Drew Stafford's second period tally in a 5-2 victory.
The camp features 43 prospective American players contending for a spot on the United States team at the 2004 IIHF Under-20 World Junior Championship.
___________________FINLAND, SWEDEN EARN SHOOTOUT WINS
Lake Placid, New York - Finland and Sweden both rallied to record shootout victories tonight at the 2003 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York. In the first game, Finland blanked Team Blue in the opening shootout, 2-0, and Sweden shut out Team White in the second shootout, 3-0.
