HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth Junior Hugh Jessiman (Darien, Conn.) played a hand in all three of the Big Green's goals as the No. 12 Dartmouth men's hockey team tipped Western Ontario, 3-1, in an exhibition contest Friday night at Thompson Arena.

In the Big Green's first action of the 2004-05 season, senior Dan Yacey (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) and sophomore Sean Samuel (Mississauga, Ont.) combined for 21 saves in net. Mike Boyce stopped 35 shots for Western Ontario.

The Mustangs got on the board first when Jamie Chamberlain notched a power-play tally 8:21 into the game off assists from Jason Davies and Matt Bannan. However, senior Lee Stempniak (West Seneca, N.Y.) knocked home a pass from Jessiman with a man advantage midway through the second period to knot the score.

With 2:45 to go in the second, Dartmouth took the lead for good. Freshman David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) started the game-winning play behind the Western Ontario net and swung a pass to Jessiman. With his skates at the boards, Jessiman found sophomore Dave Thompson (Mississauga, Ont.) in the slot near the blue line before Thompson fired a slapper past Boyce.

Jessiman iced the win with 4:50 gone in the third on another power-play goal. Jones and Stempniak finished off a give-and-go by passing off to Jessiman, who deked out a defender and shelved a shot past Boyce's left shoulder.

The Big Green open the regular season on October 30-31 with a pair of 7:00 PM ET games at Thompson Arena. On October 30, Dartmouth takes on Quinnipiac in a game which can be seen both on NESN and CSTV. The following day, the Big Green plays the University of Connecticut.
