On April 8, Duguay traveled to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., to the campus of Children’s Village to conduct a street hockey clinic with 30 teenagers. After guiding the teens through a series of introductory hockey drills, he split them up into groups and organized a scrimmage.
Despite the snow flurries and cold temperatures, Duguay was proud to be a part of this unique program that introduces children of Garden of Dreams’ partner organizations to the game of hockey at the grassroots level.
“For me, this event was an absolute blast,” he said. “I hope that everyone else had as much fun as I did.”
On April 21, Graves visited Children’s Aid Society’s East Harlem Center in Manhattan for a floor hockey clinic with 30 kids, ages 8-12 years old. Similar to the clinic Duguay held at Children’s Village, this particular clinic with Graves featured instruction on the basics of hockey, safety procedures, and technical demonstrations to help the kids learn to stickhandle, pass and shoot.
“Certainly anytime you have a chance to introduce the game of hockey to a group of kids its special,” stated Graves. “All of the children here today were outstanding. They wanted to learn about the game. Most importantly, though, they all seemed to have a good time.”
The Rangers Road Tour was also present at the two events, providing the children with an opportunity to test their newly developed skills in the inflatable slapshot booth.
In addition, the kids of Children’s Village and Children’s Aid Society were treated to a pizza party as well as Rangers jerseys and gift bags at the conclusion of these events, courtesy of the Rangers and Garden of Dreams.
