New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Dan Girardi
underwent successful surgery yesterday to repair his inguinal hernia. In addition, Brandon Prust
underwent successful surgery today to repair a labral tear.
Both players are expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Girardi led all Rangers defensemen and ranked second and seventh on the team, respectively, with career-highs in assists (27) and points (31) this season. He also led the league with a career-high, 236 blocked shots, and ranked second on the Rangers and 15th in the NHL with a career-high in average ice time (24:34).
The fourth-year player skated in his 300th career NHL game on November 19 at Colorado.
Prust captured the 2010-11 Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, voted by the fans as the player who performs "above and beyond the call of duty." He established career-highs in goals (13), assists (16), points (29), and shots on goal, and was one of four Rangers to have skated in all 82 games this season.
Prust tied for second in the NHL with a career-high, seven shorthanded points, third with five shorthanded goals and 12th with two shorthanded assists.
