by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

On the same day that Canada tabbed Eric Lindros and Theoren Fleury for the 2002 Canadian Olympic Hockey Team, Rangers third round draft choice (79th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Garth Murray, was selected to represent Canada in the 2002 World Junior Championship Tournament. The world class international tournament will be held from December 25 to January 4 in the Czech Republic.

The 6-1, 208-pound captain of the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League ranks third on the club with 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists). Murray ranks second on the team with 17 goals and places fourth on Regina with 16 assists.

The Regina, Saskatchewan native joins Blueshirt prospects Ryan Hollweg and Bryce Lampman in the tournament. Hollweg and Lampman were selected to Team USA. Filip Novak, Murray's teammate in Regina, is a possibility for the Czech Republic, while Rangers' second round pick in the 2001 Draft, Fedor Tutin, has a chance to skate with Russia.
