Madison Square Garden has named Gail Stern to the position of senior vice president, merchandising and licensing, it was announced today by Scott O’Neil, president, MSG Sports and Melissa Ormond, chief operating officer, MSG Entertainment.
Reporting to O’Neil and Ormond, Ms. Stern will serve as the strategic leader of product, licensing and retail programs that encompass Madison Square Garden’s world-class brands.
In her new role, Ms. Stern will create business development strategies for Madison Square Garden’s properties, including the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Liberty, and MSG Entertainment brands, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, the Radio City Rockettes, and other live entertainment productions.
In addition, Ms. Stern will oversee the expansion of Madison Square Garden’s sports and entertainment collectibles program, which will include product development, placement and media promotional strategies.
“MSG has an unrivaled set of assets and Gail’s expertise in developing strategic merchandising and licensing programs will help us with a variety of new business opportunities and further strengthen our position as the premier brand in sports, live music and entertainment,” said Mr. O’Neil.

Ms. Stern joins Madison Square Garden from the Schottenstein Luxury Group where she served as svp, licensing. She previously held positions as svp, brand management at the Beanstalk Group and as vp, consumer products for Nickelodeon. The graduate of SUNY Albany and Columbia University Graduate School of Business, also held positions with Children’s Television Workshop, Godiva Chocolatier Inc, Crazy Horse Sportswear, and Macy’s.
