On Monday, November 5, Rangers alumnus Nick Fotiu was among the Shining Stars honored by Garden of Dreams Foundation partner organization Starlight Children’s Foundation for their individual community efforts. Fotiu joined, Knicks alumnus Larry Johnson, New York Red Bulls player Kenny Cooper, USA Women’s Soccer Team Gold Medalists Carli Lloyd and Heather O’Reilly, and New York Jets player, Muhammad Wilkerson, as honorees at Starlight’s 23rd Annual Celebrity Sports Auction.

The event, held at Madison Square Garden, is the organization’s largest fundraiser event featuring live and silent auctions containing over 100 items. The money raised from the night’s event will help to guarantee that Starlight’s services will reach over 275,000 seriously ill children in the tri-state area this coming year.

“It is a privilege to be one of the honorees that Starlight Children’s Foundation is recognizing. I’ve seen firsthand the work that Garden of Dreams and this organization does to put smiles on the faces of seriously ill children. It also puts smiles on the faces of all of us.” said Fotiu. “For me it is an honor to serve our local New York community, where I played and grew up.”

Fotiu joins Rangers alumni Rod Gilbert and Dave Maloney, and current Rangers forward Marian Gaborik, as Shining Stars honorees recognized at the Annual Celebrity Sports Auction by Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Starlight Children’s Foundation NY*NJ*CT is one of the Garden of Dreams partner organizations. Starlight is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a world of difference for seriously ill children and their families. Starlight seeks to soften the hard edges of what a family experiences when a child has serious illness, by creating a sense of community between families who are having similar experiences and by providing opportunities to do something fun with others and just feel “normal” again.
