Duguay makes Rangers fans in Haiti

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers
Last year, when Ron Duguay laced up his figure skates to participate in season one of Battle of the Blades, it was more than just an on-ice competition. For his role in the show, Duguay designated all proceeds from his winnings to World Vision. World Vision, an organization focused on children since 1950, is a charity close to his heart, Duguay and his wife sponsored a child in Haiti through the organization nine years ago.

During his time on the show, Duguay made it to Week Three of competition before being eliminated and placing sixth overall. The experience was a great one for him which made viewers truly realize the intricacies of figure skating and the difference between skating in a hockey setting versus the figure skating environment.

The proceeds from Duguay’s time on the show were used by World Vision to assist local schools in Haiti. In early September, Duguay and his family travelled to Haiti to visit the schools that he was able to assist. Duguay brought Rangers pride to the local area children and brightened the days of many by his visit.

Before returning home, Duguay and his family visited their sponsor child and presented him with a Rangers gift bag full of different Rangers items. It was the first time since they had began sponsoring the child that they had been able to meet him.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. For more information on World Vision, please log onto
