Dubinsky Shines at 2005 National Junior Evaluation Camp

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

New York Rangers prospect Brandon Dubinsky impressed scouts at the Under-20 USA Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY.

Rangers Vice President, Player Personnel and Assistant General Manager Don Maloney reports from Lake Placid:

Brandon had a terrific game. The training he has been doing with Reg as well as the skating instruction has had a tremendous effect, at least on this night. He scored on his first shift and was a threat with the puck every time he touched it. He worked hard every shift and kept his shifts short. Excellent feel and vision with possession. He stepped into people when it was there and played a real team game. The more I watched Brandon last night the more you can see Brandon must be in top condition to make up for his skating deficiencies. When he competes this hard and moves his feet like his did in this game, he shows real NHL upside. A VERY pleasant surprise!!!!

Maloney and Rangers Amateur Scout Ray Clearwater comment on Dubinsky's play in USA White's 5-0 win over Sweden:

Maloney: Brandon had a very strong game .... I thought his skating/pace was 100% improved from my last viewing .... [H]e is in very good condition and was able to keep his energy at a high level every shift .... He was excellent with the puck, scoring a goal on a quick release his first shift and making something happen every time he touched the puck ... he played a real team game - short shifts, high energy, worked hard - a very position game.

Clearwater: Brandon was very good in the 1st period, got open and scored an early goal, really worked hard, took the body whenever he had the chance, good body language. Continued his intense play throughout, a very impressive performance. He looks in very good shape ...
