by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

Dan Blackburn's impressive first NHL season was capped off with a selection to the 2001-02 NHL All-Rookie Team, as announced tonight at the NHL Awards show in Toronto, Ontario.

Blackburn, who posted a 12-15-0 mark, along with a 3.33 goals against average in 30 matches, was joined by forwards Kristian Huselius (Florida), Dany Heatly (Atlanta) and Ilya Kovalchuk (Atlanta); defensemen Nick Boynton (Boston) and Rotislav Klesla (Columbus) on the squad.

The 19-year old netminder became the fifth youngest goalie in NHL history to appear in a game (18 years, 143 days) and the third youngest to record a win (18 years, 148 days) last season. He also became just the second goaltender in NHL history under the age of 19 to record a five-game winning streak (Tom Barrasso - 1983-84). Blackburn captured the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award as the team's top rookie in Training Camp and was named the 2001-02 Rangers Rookie of the Year.
