Dale Purinton Suspended Four Pre-Season Games

National Hockey League, New York, N.Y. -- New York Rangers defenseman Dale Purinton has been suspended four preseason games and fined $1,000, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for attempting to injure New York Islanders goaltender Garth Snow during a game September 22.

For his actions at 12:36 of the second period, Purinton was assessed a two-minute instigating penalty, a five-minute major penalty for fighting, a 10-minute misconduct, a game misconduct plus a match penalty.

Purinton was suspended immediately, pending League review of the incident. The suspension covered games September 23 against Philadelphia and September 25 against New Jersey; it will continue through games tonight against Montreal and Saturday against Boston.
